Police protect, serve CSU community

CSU PoliceUniversity Police play a vital role at CSU, enforcing state and local laws and ensuring the safety of students, faculty, staff and campus visitors.

Employees of the 25-officer police force go through the same training required of law enforcement professionals throughout Georgia and have the same arrest powers. Led by Police Chief Rus Drew, the force also has an assistant chief, three division lieutenants and three shift sergeants.

Headquarters for University Police is in the Health and Safety Building on CSU's main campus. Several officers also work from a separate police station on the new CSU RiverPark campus in downtown Columbus.

Patrol officers regularly lock, unlock and check all university buildings and other property. CSU police also patrol CSU apartment complexes, working closely with resident assistants who are on duty from 7 p.m. to 11 p.m. on weekdays and 7 p.m. to 1 a.m. on weekends. Officers patrol in marked vehicles, on bicycle and on foot.

Police also work with CSU Plant Operations to ensure campus safety, submitting work orders for lights, locks, windows, doors and other safety needs. Faculty, staff and students are encouraged to report safety-related issues to Plant Operations through CougarNet or Remedy Web.

My CSU Experience
"The University Police Department has some of the best trained police officers in their ranks. There is no question that our safety is their top priority. "
